Stone Gait's Cast of Characters
(as told by Emily)
(pictures by Hannah Chetkowski)
My children and I have many animals. We thought you would like to hear about them, since I get many of my story ideas from their antics.

We have 3 horses, Bogey, Bob and Amber. Bogey is a dressage horse and he loves to show off. He is very smart and loves to go to shows.
Bob is a Clydesdale cross from Canada. He used to haul logs out of the woods and worked very hard. When he first came to live with us, he was very thin, and he didn't know what treats were, like apples and carrots. He also didn't trust anyone. But things are different for him now, he is healthy and he loves treats. He also knows that we love him and he is now a very happy, wonderful horse. He pulls a cart and a sleigh instead of big logs now. He is very sweet and well-behaved.

Amber is a beautiful Belgian mare. She logs and pulls a cart, and like to trail ride. Even though she weighs 2000 pounds, she is very kind and gentle.
Winston Winston, our mini-donkey, is an escape artist. He likes to get loose and run laps around our neighbor's houses! Sometimes he looks in their windows! Then he quickly runs home and gets back in the paddock before we even know he was gone.

Shaggy is a standard donkey. He has very long hair, a huge head and big ears, and is the prettiest color. he is much bigger than Winston. He was not taken care of by his former owners and he came here skinny with very bad hooves. His hooves were so long he could barely walk. Thank goodness there are kind people who care about animals who got him away from that bad situation. Shaggy gets annoyed with Winston's foolishness and scolds him sometimes which is funny. Shaggy is a very laid back donkey, quiet and sweet, and does not escape. He is the total opposite of Winston!
Bert the bird is a Lutino Indian Ringneck. He has been talking since he was only 3 months old. His favorite things to say are "How ya' doin'?" and "Wanna Cookie?" and "Pretty Bert!" but he also likes to imitate the cat meowing and Mabel barking. He sounds just like them, too! Bert has started to go to the schools with Mabel and me. He is very funny! He is also in the new Mabel book, Mabel Takes A Paddle.

And, of course, there are the dogs.
